John Leslie's importance to the adult industry as performer and director is hard to overstate. His career as a performer began in the early 1970s and he emerged as a strong performer in the 1976 Mitchell Brothers production "Autobiography of a Flea;" he continued performing until the late 1980s and racked up about 300 roles. His most popular movies as a performer include "Three Faces of Angel," "Naked Afternoon," and "Nothing To Hide." After Leslie shifted his concentration to directing in the late '80s, he occasionally came out of retirement for a scene, such as a notable performance with Naomi in the stunning "Naomi... There's Only One" in 2006, which he also directed. Leslie was one of the first performers to become a director, making 27 movies for VCA Pictures. Later he started his own production company, John Leslie Productions (distributed through Evil Angel), where he made nearly 100 movies. Leslie's most memorable flicks include "Night Shift Nurses" (his 1987 directorial debut), "The Chameleon," "Chameleons: Not The Sequel," "Brianna Love, Her Fine, Sexy Self," and the famous "Voyeur" and "Fresh Meat" series. Leslie was still directing up until his death of a heart attack on Sunday, December 5, 2010, age 65.
During his career, Leslie received numerous awards for acting and directing from AVN, XRCO, AFAA, CAFA. He was inducted into the AVN, Legends of Erotica, and XRCO Halls of Fame.
Leslie was known as a true artist, one of the best at what he did in the adult industry, giving many young performers a break. Outside of movie production, Leslie was an accomplished painter, photographer, blues musician, and gourmet chef.
